Like in most places in the world, Russia’s silver screens are dominated by Hollywood’s global blockbusters. Russia’s film industry has struggled with the financial crisis, but it is also capable of producing films that can occasionally compete locally with the American machine. Once a month, SRAS provides a lineup of the top Russian movies in Russia that ranked in the top 10 for weekend box-office take.

This awarding-winning film tells about a modern Moscow family experiencing a painful divorce. The main characters (Zhenya and Boris) are still married, but each has already started a new chapter in life, and each is impatient to finish the formalities of the divorce and move on. As their endless conflicts drag on, Zhenya and Boris neglect their only child, 12-year-old Alyosha, who feels absolutely unneeded by both parents. Suddenly, one day, Alyosha disappears…

 

 

Сказ о Петре и Февронии – The Tale of Peter and Fevronia – $0.77 million as of July 30, 2017

It’s the 13th century, AD in the Muromskoye principality (modern-day Moscow). An evil sorcerer has seized power and only a brave warrior, Peter, will fight him. Peter wins the battle, but the sorcerer’s blood poisoned the hero. Fevronia, a healer, is ready to use her gift to save Peter and feelings erupt between the young people, which must be preserved despite many obstacles.

A young man narrowly escapes death to return to the house where he was born, which now houses the love of his life. Upon arriving to the house, the young man makes a terrible discovery: his beloved is the daughter of his enemy.

Three youths: Maxim; his brother, Peter; and his new girlfriend, Pauline, travel to a deserted village which boasts an old abandoned ship with a particular local notoriety. Suddenly, Paulina disappears during the night and the brothers rush to find her. She suddenly returns, but… strange things start happening. Maxim fears for the girl, and his brother begins to suspect her identity.

 

 

Блокбастер – Blockbuster – $0.16 million as of July 23, 2017

Lisa, driven to a nervous breakdown by her hated colleagues and depraved boyfriend, jumps in her car and drives from Moscow in an unknown direction. In the dead of night, she becomes witness to a raid on a microcredit center in the Elektrougli district. She’s taken hostage by Natasha, a stunning but particularly unintelligent robber.
