MTV Russia Top 5: December 2010

Published: December 30, 2010

MTV Russia is just like MTV everywhere else—except that it plays some Russian stuff, too. They used to have a program called “Русская 10-тка” (“Russian 10”) devoted to the best Russian-language pop currently on the market, but that program has since morphed into another program called “Rus_Chart.” Once a month, SRAS provides a snapshot of what’s at the top five of that chart, with YouTube videos and links to our Russian music site.

1.  “Ice Baby”—Guf

2. “Не перебивай” (“Don’t Interrupt”)—Нюша

3. “Мизантроп-Рэп” (“Misanthrope Rap”)—Noize MC

4. “Сколько стоит любовь” (“How Much Does Love Cost”)—Тимати

5. “Любовь спасет мир” (“Love Will Save the World”)—Вера Брежнева

Julie Hersh

Julie studied Russian as a Second Language in Irkutsk and before that, Bishkek, with SRAS's Home and Abroad Scholarship program, with the goal of someday having some sort of Russia/Eurasia-related career. She recently got her master’s degree from the University of Glasgow and the University of Tartu, where she studied women’s dissent in Soviet Russia. She also has a bachelor’s degree in literature from Yale. Some of her favorite Russian authors are Sorokin, Shishkin, Il’f and Petrov, and Akhmatova. In her spare time Julie cautiously practices martial arts, reads feminist websites, and taste-tests instant coffee for her blog.
