Feruza Jumaniyozova is an Uzbek singer. She has released songs in Tajik, Uyghur, Farsi, Dari, Turkmen, Azeri, Hindi, Turkish, and Uzbek.
Feruza was born on 14 Feebruary, 1984 in Khorezm, in the Uzbek SSR. She started performing music when she was three. Originally wanting to be a doctor, she enrolled in the Institute of Medicine but then transferred to a theater university. She started releasing songs and albums at age 14. In 2006, she had two big hits” “Yalla Habibi” (“Let’s Go, Dear”) and “Kel Azizim” (“Come, My Dear”). She also had a cameo in the movie Voydod sumalak.
She got married in 2010 and had one son. In 2010, her career was stalled because the Uzbekistan government revoked her musical license for performing in Tajikistan without notifying the government first. Without a musical license, she cannot perform at weddings or have her songs featured on TV or radio. Uzbek singers make most of their money performing at weddings and so, without her license, Feruza could not make money.
Although later restored, her license was revoked again in 2014 for what the state said were violations of her contract.
Her comeback single was “Voy Voy Lazgi,” (“Wow, Wow, Lazgi”) her take on the traditional Khorezm song about a dance called Lazgi. In 2018, she released hits “Siri Dil” (“The Secret of the Heart”), “Shaftoli” (“Pear”) and “Turkmancha” (“Turkmen”). She is an ambitious artist, wanting to be world renowned. She is also one of the few Uzbek pop singers who does not lip synch. She performed at an important state gala in 2019 and continues to perform and release new music.
Yalla habibi (Let’s Go, Dear)
Released in 2006, this song is Feruza’s best known hit in Uzbek. The music video features belly dancers which soon after were censored in Uzbekistan.
Yalla habibi, yalla yalla habibi,
Nechun bugun kozlaring zabunli?
So’nma jonim men bormanku,
Bolma azal tunlarga asiri
Yalla Habibi, yalla yalla habibi,
Nechun bugun hayoling hazonli
Tonma jonim, men bormanku,
Bolma azal tunlarga asiri
Osmondagı oyman, Dengizdagı gulman
Nasib etgan havasli muhabbating menman
Hayajoning bolsa, hayolingda nelar?
Sarson bolma, haqiqiy vafodoring menman
Omon omon yor bolgin omon yor,
Menga keraksan sog va bahtli holda
Omon omon yor bolgin omon yor,
Menga avzalsan meni sevgan holda
Yalla habibi, yalla yalla habibi,
Zor hayoting bolsin oh mazmunli
Senga shunday yor bolayin,
Yonımda bol betakror toleyli
Osmondagi oyman, Dengizdagi gulman
Nasib etgan havasli muhabbating menman
Hayajoning bilsa, hayolingda nelar?
Sarson bolma, haqiqiy vafodoring menman
Omon omon yor bolgin omon yor,
Menga keraksan sog va bahtlı holda
Omon omon yor bolgin omon yor,
Menga avzalsan meni sevgan holda
Забони ширин (Sweet Tongue)
Here is one of Feruza’s Tajik songs.
