Born in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Southern Poland, Dawid Podsiadło was the winner of Poland’s second X Factor contest.
In 2010, he created an alternative rock band with his friends called Curly Heads in their hometown of Dąbrowa Górnicza. At first, the band only performed for each other, constantly practicing every moment they could get; then they were invited to perform in bars and small venues around Poland and eventually gained traction and began to get noticed. In 2011 the group auditioned for I Have Talent! (Mam Talent!), Poland’s version of the Got Talent series; the jurors were impressed with Podsiadło’s warm and soothing tone, but they said that only he could proceed to the next round. He refused, saying the group arrived as Curly Heads and they would leave together as Curly Heads.
The following year, Podsiadło auditioned for Poland’s X Factor alone and eventually won the entire competition. Upon victory, Podsiadło received 100,000 PLN and a recording contract with Sony Music. In May 2013, he released his debut album titled Comfort and Happiness, which featured some songs in English and some in Polish. The album reached number one on the Polish Albums Chart and sold more than three million copies that year, becoming Poland’s best-selling album of 2013. In 2015, the album additionally received diamond certification, meaning that it sold more than ten million copies.
In October 2014, Podsiadło released an album with his band, Curly Heads. The album, titled Ruby Dress Skinny Dog and entirely in English, debuted at number four on the Polish Albums Chart. The following year, the album was nominated for the 2015 Fryderyk award in the Rock Album of the Year category.
Podsiadło’s second solo album, Annoyance and Disappointment, was released in November 2015 and debuted at number one in Poland and was later certified triple platinum, meaning that it sold more than three million copies.
Podsiadło continues to create music with his friends in their hometown of Dąbrowa Górnicza.
“Nieznajomy”- from album Comfort and Happiness (2013)
Lyrics:
Witaj nieznajomy, pytanie do ciebie mam
A w oczach ból i gniew uśpionych zdarzeń
Kłamałem więcej niż kiedykolwiek chciałbym przyznać
A w moich żyłach płynęła krew zimniejsza niż stal
Dlatego dzisiaj jestem całkiem sam
Mój nieznajomy, czy widzisz to co ja?
Jak to możliwe, ze ktokolwiek ufał mi?
Pozornie szczery, lecz nigdy tak jak dziś
To samo miejsce, ten sam zmęczony strach
Wśród tłumu ludzi odbijam się od dna
Żegnaj nieznajomy, już nie chcę twoich rad
“Forest”- from the album Annoyance and Disappointment (2015)
Lyrics:
I will wait
You will find me
In the land
Of green gardens
To be forgotten is worse than a death
If everything’s a dream don’t wake me
I’ve learned so much but there’s so much to be learned
You’re always trying to be-betray me
All of my lies still rumble in my head
I cannot tell which one is real so I’ll just choose
Whatever suits me best and try to win this stupid argument
You can run now Forest
Run now Forest
Run now Forest, run
You can run now Forest
Run now Forest
Run now Forest, run
You can run now Forest
Run now Forest
Run now Forest, run
You can run now Forest
Run now Forest
Run now Forest, run
I’m not mad
Just waiting for love again
In the land
Of green gardens
It’s pretty hard standing on two feet
When the planet keeps on turning
I’ve probably gathered all the energy
to be the man I wanted to be
Haven’t I told you you’re my
Well I’ve been trying over and over
Haven’t I told you you’re my
Haven’t I told you you’re my “gone girl”
You can run now Forest
Run now Forest
Run now Forest, run
You can run now Forest
Run now Forest
Run now Forest, run
You can run now Forest
Run now Forest
Run now Forest, run
You can run now Forest
Run now Forest
Run now Forest, run
(I’ll be going now. I’ll come back when it’s all over.)
