Maksim Fadeev & Monolit Records

Published: January 7, 2017

Maksim Fadeev (Максим Александрович Фадеев) is Russian singer-songwriter, composer, and music producer. Fadeev is probably best-known as the manager of the highly successful pop singer Linda (Линда) and as the founder of the major record label Monolit Records (Монолит Рекордс).

Fadeev was born in 1968 in the city of Kurgan, USSR. As a child he attended music school and learned to play bass guitar at an early age. By the age of 15 Fadeev was something of a prodigy, attending a university-level music school while still only a teenager. By 1989 Fadeev was already becoming well-known and had found something of a patron in the showman and actor Sergey Kirilov (Сергей Кирилов), who introduced Fadeev to professional musicians including Larisa Dolina (Лариса Долина) and Valeriy Leontyev (Валерий Леонтев), writing compositions and musical arrangements.

In 1993, following the recommendation of film director Fyodor Bondarchuk (Фёдор Бондарчук), Fadeev began managing the singer Svetlana Geiman (Светлана Гейман), known as Linda. Fadeev composed and produced the majority of Linda’s music from 1993 until their partnership ended in 1999. Following his major success as a music producer, Fadeev began to work as a television producer, as well. He produced the first two seasons of Channel One’s Star Factory (Фабрика звёзд), from which many Russian stars got their start. Fadeev also became the manager for the rock singer Glu’koza (Глю’коза) during this time.

In 2003 Fadeev founded Monolit Records, which has since become one of the most influential record companies in Russia and the former Soviet states. The following year Monolit released Katya Leliy’s (Катя Лелий) debut album, Jaga-Jaga (Джага-Джага), which went platinum. The following year Fadeev returned as producer for the fifth season of Star Factory, and began to focus his energies as well on a new band: Serebro (Серебро). Serebro was a girl group that became one of the most popular Russian pop bands of the decade. Monolit released Serebro’s first album, OpiumRoz (ОпиумRoz), in 2009.

Fadeev has also dabbled in writing. In 2007 he wrote the script for the cartoon Savva (Савва), which is inspired by Fadeev’s son of the same name. In 2010 the cartoon was adapted for the United States market by American screenwriter Gregory Poirier. Fadeev directed the cartoon and composed the musical score for this adaptation, which starred several big-name actors like Whoopi Goldberg, Joe Pesci, Milla Jovovich, and Sharon Stone.

Here is Linda’s “A Little Flame” (“Мало Огня”):

Lyrics for “Мало Огня”:

Here is Glukoza’s recent single “Without You” (“Без тебя”):

Lyrics for “Без тебя”:
